Living and supporting life with stoma

Bathing and showering

When you have urostomy

  • When you have urostomy, urine is continuously following out of the stoma, so it is better to wear your appliances while you bathe.
  • If you have a catheter, keep your stoma appliances on while you bathe to avoid infection or trouble caused by water getting into the catheter.
  • For ileal conduit, it is possible to take off your appliances when you shower. When you immerse in the tub, you can cover the stoma with a cup-like container so the urine doesn’t mix into the water.
